The Easiest Way to Add a Tip Button to Your Website

June 2026 · 4 min read

If you create content online, you've probably thought about adding a way for your audience to support you directly. The problem is the options are bad. Crowdfunding platforms take 5 to 8 percent. Payment links from card processors require a merchant account. PayPal buttons work but involve multiple redirects, account creation for the payer, and a fee on every transaction.

DropPay's tip widget is a different approach. One script tag. No fees per tip. No account required for the person tipping. The money goes straight to your XRPL wallet address via the XRP Ledger. If you're also invoicing clients directly, DropPay's payment requests cover that workflow too.

What the visitor experience looks like

When someone visits your site and clicks the tip button, a small modal opens. They choose an amount, open Xaman on their phone, and approve the payment. The whole process takes about 15 seconds. The payment confirms on the XRP Ledger within 5 seconds after that.

Visitors don't need a DropPay account. They just need an XRP wallet to send from. Currently, payments are made using Xaman, a free app for iOS and Android that takes a few minutes to set up. Support for additional payer wallets is in development.

How to add it to your site

Sign up for a DropPay account and set your handle in settings. That handle becomes part of your tip page URL and the widget configuration. Then paste this into your site:

<script src="https://droppayxrp.com/droppaytip.js" data-handle="yourhandle" data-theme="light"> </script>

That's the full setup. The script injects a styled tip button wherever you place it. On click, it opens the payment modal inline without navigating away from your page.

The embed works on any site where you can edit the HTML: WordPress, Ghost, Webflow, Framer, Squarespace, and plain static HTML pages. If you can paste a YouTube embed, you can add the tip widget.

Where it makes sense

The widget is a good fit for a few specific situations:

It's not a replacement for a subscription or a formal payment request. It's for the case where someone wants to send a small amount spontaneously, without you having to create a specific invoice for them.

The tip page

Every DropPay account also gets a public tip page at droppayxrp.com/tip/yourhandle. You can link to this directly from your social profiles, email signature, or anywhere else. The page shows your name, a short bio if you've set one, and the same payment modal the widget uses.

On Pro, you can customize the brand colors, add a tagline, and set your own logo on the tip page. That gives you a more polished experience if you want to share the link more publicly.

What you're not paying for

The XRP Ledger transaction cost is around $0.0001. DropPay doesn't take any percentage. On the free plan, you get unlimited tip page traffic and the embed works without limit. The Pro plan at $5 a month adds API access and webhooks, and custom branding.

Compare this to a platform that takes 5% of every tip. If you receive $200 in tips in a month, that's $10 gone. With DropPay, you keep all of it. And if you ever want to understand why non-custodial payments matter, that's worth a read too.
